BUILDING UP SPORTS ACADEMY

Building tomorrows athletes and anglers today

About Us

David Aagaard is the founder and owner of Building Up Sports Academy and has been working with youth sports camps for over 25 years. He graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a major in Physical Education and a minor in Communication. While attending PBA, David played on the 1995 Fall Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team and later went on to serve as the former Head Baseball Coach at Jupiter Christian High School.

In addition to running Building Up Sports Academy, David is currently in his 25th year as a middle school teacher in Palm Beach County, Florida. His combined experience in education and athletics has shaped the academy’s strong emphasis on character development alongside skill building.

Founded in 2002, Building Up Sports Academy has grown from just two camps in its first year to offering more than 50 camps, clinics, and programs annually. The academy now serves families in both Palm Beach County, Florida and Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Sportsmanship and teamwork are core values woven into every program. David believes many camps and coaches overlook these essential life skills, and Building Up Sports Academy is committed to teaching them with the same importance as individual athletic development. Instructors focus not only on improving sports performance but also on helping young athletes grow into respectful, confident, and team-oriented individuals.

Owner & Founder

Fishing Camps

Building Up Sports Academy offers one of the largest youth fishing programs in Florida. We host a variety of fishing camps and clinics in both Palm Beach County, FL, and Nantucket, MA. Our programs are designed to be both educational and fun, giving kids the excitement of catching fish while teaching important conservation and ethical angling practices.

Studies show that children who take up fishing at an early age are less likely to engage in risky behaviors, including drug use. Our campers learn all aspects of fishing, including identifying different species, understanding feeding habits, mastering casting techniques, tying essential fishing knots, and practicing water safety.

Some of the common species caught in our Florida freshwater camps include Largemouth Bass, Peacock Bass, Bluegill, Catfish, Tilapia, and the non-native Mayan Cichlid. Through hands-on experience and expert guidance, kids develop confidence, patience, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.

Fishing Camps

Campers will learn essential fishing skills, including tying different knots, baiting hooks, practicing water safety, and identifying a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish found in Florida. We provide all the fishing equipment, rods, and bait, so all campers can jump right in.

The week culminates with an exciting fishing tournament on the last day, followed by an awards ceremony to celebrate each angler’s achievements. This camp is perfect for beginners as well as seasoned anglers.

Space is limited due to the availability of equipment, so be sure to sign up early! Join us for a fun-filled week of fishing and the chance to catch a trophy fish—then release it safely back into the water.

All Camps Include:

  • 5 days of structured activities

  • Camp T-shirt

  • Daily prizes

  • Awards ceremony – every camper receives a fishing medal
